Biography
Koichi Okazaki
Contemporary photographer. Born in 2000 in Miyagi Prefecture. Currently based in Tokyo.
Okazaki’s childhood was shaped by two defining experiences, living in various cities around the world and witnessing the rapid development of the internet and social media. Through these experiences, Okazaki became increasingly interested in a distinctly contemporary condition in which the physical and digital worlds appear to be growing more homogeneous, while at the same time becoming ever more divided.
Beginning from this concern, Okazaki’s practice has come to explore how people might discover shareable forms of specificity within conditions of homogeneity. In the course of this exploration, and as an artist working with images, Okazaki has come to understand images not simply as objects, but as organic ecosystems in which various processes and agents interact with one another. Against this background, Okazaki positions his own practice as a form of co-generation with the ecosystem of images. By constructing new ecosystems within his works and exhibition spaces, he seeks to create works that connect people rather than divide them.
